Ross Stockwell
Morning Light, 2025 Ross Stockwell
Astigmatic Variations is an ongoing project in which I capture images using time exposures and in-camera movement. I then apply textured overlays to render artistic interpretations of states such as isolation, longing, memory and dissolution.
I try to capture the felt-sense and presence in what I photograph, while imagining the subject’s implied context, history and trajectory forward. I encourage photographic accidents and surprises which often add disruptive contrast and juxtaposition.
In this 2025 edition, I utilize metaphors to express dimensions of personal journey, crossroads and transformation.
Ross Stockwell is an emerging artist based in Toronto, Ontario. His work is eclectic, and includes landscape, urban, dance and the human figure. He is attracted to visual oddity and the play of patterns and geometric forms. He explores states of being, felt-sense perceptions, and intuition in an inanimate context. Stockwell previously showed his work at Spectra 2022, Hutchison Road; G44’s Members Gallery (January 2023), Dissolution, and Spectra 2024, Astigmatic Variations, 2024.
